H1N1 TREATMENT

If you are diagnosed with H1N1

Stay home from work, school, public places and other social settings. Avoid close contact with others for seven days after your symptoms begin. This is the time when the illness can be spread to others. Contact a health care provider if your symptoms worsen.

Be Prepared
Everyone should plan ahead in case they become ill. This is especially important if you live alone, are a single parent or a caregiver. Have enough fluids and other supplies, such as tissues, on hand to last one to two weeks. Have medication for fever and a thermometer handy. Arrange for a backup caregiver for loved ones, in case you are ill.

Seek medical care if you:

  • Have heart or lung disease.
  • Have any other chronic condition that requires regular medical attention.
  • Have a chronic illness.
  • Are on treatments that weaken the immune system.

Symptoms and what to do - a decision chart

If you have flu symptoms, use the guidelines in the Decision Chart [PDF 297k] to help make the best decision for you and your loved ones. Always use hygiene and prevention measures to avoid contamination.

  • Wash your hands frequently
  • Cough or sneeze into the crook of your elbow, rather than into your hands
  • Keep your surroundings clean
